The Twilight star has backtracked on claims that he rejected out of hand to show a dog a ‘good time’ for a scene in his new movie, appropriately enough entitled ‘Good Time’!
Confused? Here's the full lowdown: during the weekend, the Hollywood heartthrob told TV chat show host Jimmy Kimmel that a co-director of his new movie actually asked him to masturbate a dog for real in a scene! But he rejected the idea out of hand.
In the movie ‘Good Time’ Pattinson plays a character who has a strange infinity with dogs, believing he was a canine in a previous life.
He told Kimmel: “He thinks he has control over animals and stuff. There’s this one scene we shot where basically a drug dealer bursts into the room and I was sleeping with the dog and basically giving the dog a hand job.”
Pattinson stated even the film set’s dog trainer said he could actually pleasure the dog! But he insisted on a fake penis being attached to the animal for the scene, which ended up left on the cutting room floor.
The funny TV interview was met with outrage from animal rights campaigners, prompting animal rights organisation PETA to announce it was to launch an investigation into how a dog trainer could possibly say it was okay to pleasure the dog.
But Robert Pattinson released a statement late last night to say that the colorful anecdote was meant to be a joke.
“The story I told on Jimmy Kimmel last night seems to have spiraled out of control. What didn't come across is that this was supposed to be a joke. No one at all expected or assumed that anything like that would happen on the Good Time set,” he stated. “We are all huge animal lovers and would obviously never do anything to harm an animal.
“Everyone involved in ‘Good Time’ are amazing professionals and have come together to make a movie that I'm extremely proud of. I feel embarrassed that in the moment, I was trying to make Jimmy laugh, only to create confusion and a false impression.”
Animal rights campaigners will hopefully be relieved to hear his explanation….
