The benefit will raise money for Alliance for Choice Derry.
Rock For Choice Northern Ireland is back and organising its next benefit concert – with a DJ set from SOAK, as well as performances by Sister Ghost, Cherym and more. The event will be held on 30th September at Sandinos in Derry.
Rock For Choice was a series of benefit concerts held between 1991 and 2001 to allow musicians to show support for the abortion rights movement in the US and Canada. The first ever Rock For Choice had performances by L7, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Foo Fighters, Joan Jett, Pearl Jam and more.
The last Rock For Choice NI event in 2019 raised £622.56 for Alliance for Choice Belfast. This time around, all proceeds are being donated to the Alliance for Choice group based in Derry.
"Even though the abortion laws have changed here since 2019, there are still lots of very serious issues around access," the event description reads, "so who better to raise funds for but one of the organisations on our doorsteps doing all the important groundwork to make sure abortion is safe and accessible to anyone who needs it."
The lineup includes Derry singer-songwriter SOAK, who stated "I’m playing Rock For Choice NI because it’s about damn time that abortion services are made accessible for the people of Northern Ireland. Free, safe, legal, local!” Sister Ghost, Derry based alt rock and garage punk band said "the history of Rock For Choice is very inspiring so it's great to bring it to NI and we're excited for round two!"

Other performers are Derry's pop rock three-piece band Cherym, Alt-indie four-piece Tramp, garage-rock new wave group Lunch Machine, and punk Dose made up of Derry-based activist Rebecca Allen and Sionainn Delores Ní Néill of Sister Ghost. Dose wrote, "Ireland's women and pregnant people are being left behind. We want to help as much as we can and as loud as we can!"
Tickets are on sale now for £11.00 for 18+ only.
