Jackie Hayden talks to musicians around Ireland about their wishes and fears about the upcoming election and the future of Ireland
“The public does not understand the cost, time and effort it takes to create music. They need to be educated. The ‘three strikes and you’re out’ policy should be adopted by all broadband providers here, and the Irish government should seriously consider implementing this as a change in legislation. Illegal file-sharing sites should be rendered inaccessible to internet users in this country. Some of the greatest artists in the world come from Ireland, and great talents still emerge from this land, so the government needs to protect their rights and nurture its most valuable resource, its artists. According to reports, Limewire has been shut down after years of a legal battle, won by the Recording Industry Association of America. Damages are now being assessed. This is how all other thieves need to be stopped.”
