Jackie Hayden talks to musicians around Ireland about their wishes and fears about the upcoming election and the future of Ireland
“I would like the next Irish government to come in line with Sweden and France and deal with the digital download issue in the same way. It’s ridiculous that the ‘three strikes’ proposal didn’t get implemented. The government has been very lazy about this and the next government should make whatever legislative changes are necessary to make this happen. Other countries have proven that it works, so there’s no excuse for our government. They could do all this if they really care as much as they claim they care about Irish music. I’m working with Bipolar Empire, young guys in their early twenties and it’s so hard for them to even survive in the current climate. The absence of action on the digital download front is making it harder and harder for young bands. Music is Ireland is suffering because nothing is being done to help musicians at the time in their careers when they most need assistance.”
