Jackie Hayden talks to musicians around Ireland about their wishes and fears about the upcoming election and the future of Ireland.
“We’ve just given permission for our track ‘Ants’ to be used as part of a promotional video for equal rights for same sex couples. I firmly believe that same sex couples should have the exact same rights under the law as heterosexual couples. So I’m with politicians like Ivana Bacik on this. It’s also great to a young guy like Dylan Haskins going for election. He’s only 23 but he’s a really inspirational figure. If I lived in his constituency I’d vote for him. In hard economic times people tend to get more creative and need all the help they can get, so the next government could make it easier for people to apply for grants and do more to tell us that these grants exist. When you see the amount of paperwork and information they need from you to apply for the most basic grant you get the impression that they’re really trying to stop you getting the grants. Changing that would give us some indication that they want us to get these grants rather than pretending that they do.”
