Jackie Hayden talks to musicians around Ireland about their wishes and fears about the upcoming election and the future of Ireland
"I was reading about some other country where they’re calling for a Day Of Anger to protest about their government. Imagine us doing that? Wouldn’t it be fantastic! Instead we’ve been gang-raped by the politicians and the financial sector – yet there’s no accountability. We’re the ones who’ve been gang-raped, yet we’re the ones who have to pay for it and just sit back and take it all. You have criminals from the building industry who were bailed out by us and they can still afford to fly their helicopters to the races. One of the most positive aspects of the current economic mess is the way young people who never had any interest in politics are now discussing it all the time. Not that I’m confident about the election. I think there’s every chance that the next lot will be no better than the last lot. I know there’s lots of talk about digital rights and downloads, but for me these issues are on the bottom shelf compared to the real issues that need to be tackled.”
