Carney announced her track-by-track cover of the entire Radiohead album last month.
Covers are hard to get right, and covers of iconic bands who trail a cult-like fanbase behind them are even harder. Luckily, Rosie Carney isn't bothered by appeasing anybody but herself with her track-by-track cover album of Radiohead's 'The Bends'.
Carney’s career plans and mental health were both derailed by the pandemic, and the young singer-songwriter retreated to her bedroom in her parent’s house in order to recover from a relapse into depression. While receiving treatment there, she decided to cover ‘Fake Plastic Trees’ – but ultimately settled on covering the entire LP as a form of therapy.
After her the release of her gently-delivered version of 'Bones' last month, the Donegal-raised singer-songwriter has returned with her take on both 'Black Star' and 'Just'. 'Black Star' is brimming with Carney's characteristic elegance, while 'Just' is a dark, eerie – and best of all, modern – divergence from the raucous guitar-rock sound that defined Radiohead's 1995 version.
