Ireland boasts a combined daily radio audience of 3.4 million people
The latest JNLR Irish radio listening figures have just been released with RTÉ Radio 1's Morning Ireland top of the pile with 469,000 people tuning. In second and third positions are the respective Sunday (355,000) and Saturday (352,000) editions of The Brendan O'Connor Show with Today With Claire Byrne (341,000) and Playback (339,000) cementing Radio 1's grip on the national top 5.
Radio 1 remains the only station with a weekly reach of over a million listeners. In all, RTÉ holds 17 of the top 20 radio programmes broadcasting in Ireland.
Commenting on what is an extremely good book for the national broadcaster, RTÉ Deputy Director General Adrian Lynch says: “RTÉ radio services are continuing to connect with over two million Irish people each week across RTÉ Radio 1, with increases in weekly reach across RTÉ 2FM and RTÉ lyric fm demonstrating the ongoing power of radio and importance of public service broadcasting on the airwaves for Irish audiences. RTÉ radio services are a trusted source for news, sport, entertainment and music across Ireland, and the result of ongoing hard work and dedication of the radio production teams at RTÉ. As the media landscape continues to evolve, radio is steadfast in connecting with Irish audiences at home and abroad.”
The mood will also be celebratory in Marconi House with Newstalk registering an 8.2% market share, their highest ever which gives them a weekly reach of 852,000 and 489,000 daily listeners.
The past twelve months have seen arguably their highest-profile presenter, Pat Kenny, up his audience by 55% to a similarly record-breaking 229,000 with his breakfast show colleagues, Shane Coleman and Ciara Kelly, also delivering a personal best 157,000 audience.

On the floors above them. Today FM will be delighted with their 9.5% market share, with Dave Moore (228,000 listeners), Ian Dempsey (216,000) and Louise Cantillon (139,000) all performing strongly.
Meanwhile, the battle for supremacy in Cork remains tight with Red FM posting a weekly reach of 179,000, while rivals Cork's 96fm climbed to 169,000. Given the margin of error in the polling, that represents a relatively small difference.
Dublin's most listened to music station – in what is an incredibly competitive and crowded market - is Spin 1038 which has a weekly reach of 266,000.
