Rose is the second actress to leave social media on account of fan backlash after Star Wars: The Last Jedi's Kelly Marie Tran
John Wick and The Meg star Ruby Rose has quit Twitter, citing reactions to her casting as Batwoman in the CW Universe.
Last week, the openly gay actor was revealed to play the legendary comic-book character, reintroduced by DC Comics in 2006 as a lesbian of Jewish descent.
According to Variety, Rose faced criticism online after the news. Some focused on the Australian actress not being Jewish, but the comments that appear to have caused the actress to leave Twitter were those suggesting she wasn’t right to play a lesbian superhero.
Variety report that before deleting her account, Rose posted. "Where on Earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be Batwoman’ come from – has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with ‘she’s too gay’ how do y’all flip it like that? I didn’t change. I wish we would all support each other and our journeys.”
She followed this by stating she will be taking a “break from Twitter to focus all my energy on my next 2 projects,” adding “If you need me, I’ll be on my Bat Phone.”
Following the announcement of her casting last week, the actress said it was her childhood dream to play an LBGT superhero.

Earlier this year, Star Wars: The Last Jedi actress Kelly Marie Tran left Instagram after she received online attacks, some racist, from people who disliked her character Rose Tico.
Ruby Rose can currently be seen in box-office smash The Meg, alongside Jason Statham.
