Enda Walsh and Anna Mullarkey's lauded production – which scored a rave five-star review in The Guardian – is running until November 16
Since kicking off its world premiere run on the Peacock Stage at Dublin's Abbey Theatre last month, Safe House has continued to garner praise as a groundbreaking, boundary-pushing piece of theatre – combining the creative worlds of Tony Award-winning playwright/director Enda Walsh and composer Anna Mullarkey.
Described by Walsh as a "song cycle", "theatre memory play", "cut up film" and "gig" all at once, the unique production has captured the imagination of the city, attracting music fans, theatre lovers and curious souls alike.
Through the creative use of song, music, recorded voice and film, Safe House takes audiences inside the mind of Grace, a young woman living alone in the countryside – telling the story her past and present through captivating fractured thoughts. The result is an utterly absorbing production, with the hotly-tipped, genre-bending Irish composer Anna Mullarkey having crafted a deeply emotive, life-affirming score. Featuring lyrics by Walsh, the show is performed all in song by Kate Gilmore – whose performance has been hailed as "brilliant".
The Guardian, meanwhile, described Safe House as "a dazzling achievement" in a rave five-star review.
It has just been announced that, following its huge success, Safe House will travel to St Ann’s Warehouse in New York in early 2025, but you can see the show's run at the Abbey Theatre until November 16.
So act fast! Tickets to see the show in the Abbey Theatre from €20 are available here now.
