The cover has sparked controversy on social media
The latest issue of the UK-edition of Harper’s Bazaar Magazine features Irish actress Saoirse Ronan on the cover. In the accompanying interview, the actress discusses her role in new film Mary Queen of Scots, British monarchs, the Irish border, and whether or not history will repeat itself with Brexit looming ever so close.
However, the cover has caused a stir online, with many believing it claims Ronan as British. The words ‘The Spirit of Great Britain’ appear next to the actress, who holds both American and Irish citizenship. People are questioning the placement of the words.
Saoirse Ronan features on Harper’s Bazaar ‘Spirit of Great Britain’ cover. I FUME! (I don’t really fume) https://t.co/fzndqw4W09

So Harper’s Bazaar have the wonderful Saoirse Ronan on their cover, with the headline “The spirit of Great Britain" to accompany it. Nothing factually wrong. But certainly not the best idea. Just going to put this under ‘things that were not meant in 2019, but did anyway’..... pic.twitter.com/h6JQQJXZP6

In less controversial news, Ronan has been announced as a presenter at this weekends Golden Globe Awards. Last year, she took home the award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy.
