A terrifying set of spooky tunes to fulfil all your Halloween listening needs, brought to you exclusively by Irish artists.
As good old Samhain beckons - and the Bank Holiday- Hot Press have banded together to curate a haunted playlist of Irish tunes to get you in the mood.
'Scary Éire', named after 1990's Godfathers of Irish rap, embodied a melting pot of styles, blending together hip hop, reggae, jazz, punk, ska, and traditional Irish. In this vein, the playlist hopes to expand our Halloween horizons with soundscapes taken from every genre.
With plenty of references to zombies (The Cranberries, Biig Piig, Orla Gartland), ghosts (Mick Flannery, NewDad, Katie Kim, THUMPER, David Keenan, Susan O'Neill), witches (Junior Brother), bodies (Gilla Band) and...well...death itself (Hozier, Luke Kelly, Lankum); these 63 songs effortlessly create an otherworldly sonic ambience.
Whether the playlist is blasted at parties this weekend or the comfort of your individual headphones, enjoy some Samhain culture from the people that do it best. After all, the Irish literally invented this holiday, as we make sure to tell The Americans.™

As Ash declare on their 2002 Intergalactic Sonic 7 album track 'Halloween', "As I was walking through the happy house that Halloween night/My friends were all there, my heart was glad/And my life felt actually alright."
