It's a case of life imitating art, as the old adage goes. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who has played the roles of the Vice President and US President in the smash hit TV show Veep, was actually asked to run for political office by the Democrats.
The actress has revealed that she was "approached" by "top Democrats" about the idea, but she told them in no uncertain terms: "Not in a million years."
And following on from the shock election of Donald Trump, the former Seinfeld actress also feels that there has never been a better time for a show like Veep, which is set to return to HBO on 16 April with its sixth season.
“It made it easier to perform. It scratches a deep itch for me to satirise or be funny about something that maybe doesn’t seem funny at all," Julia Louis-Dreyfus said.
However, the next season of Veep won't focus on Trump jokes. "There are the occasional jokes, but we’re not SNL, and if we try and make a joke about Trump on Veep it will be old by the time it airs," said the show's executive producer and showrunner, David Mandel. "For us, tragedy Trump plus time equals comedy," he explained.
Here's the trailer for season six:
