Serendipity
The entire film is as gooey as a Mars Bar on a tropical holiday
Limp rom-com with Jonathan (John Cusack) and Sara (Kate Beckinsale) meeting over a pair of cashmere gloves as a prelude to a magical evening together. Indeed, the evening in question is so magical that they implausibly decide to go their separate ways and leave any future meetings to fate – any plot resemblances toBefore Sunrise are a desecration of greatness. Years pass, before the (voluntarily) star-crossed lovers prepare to marry other people, wondering ‘what if?’ They proceed to embark on a search for one another, with deathly-dull results: the entire film is as gooey as a Mars Bar on a tropical holiday, and utterly wastes the not inconsiderable talents of Cusack and Beckinsale.
