The new issue of Hot Press will be on shelves this Thursday.
David Keenan continues his path to global domination as the cover star of this fortnight's Hot Press. Inside the issue, in shops this Thursday, January 23, the Dundalk singer-songwriter sits down with Pat Carty for an in-depth interview, in which he reflects on his remarkable journey so far.
The cover story comes at the end of a landmark month for Keenan – following the release of his debut album A Beginner's Guide To Bravery on January 10, and a triumphant sold-out Olympia Theatre show.
Springing to national attention after a video of him performing ‘El Paso’ in a Dundalk taxi went viral, Keenan has revitalised the Irish singer-songwriter scene by refusing to box his sound into any easy categorisation. From these humble roots to a Stateside tour, 2019 proved to be a landmark year for the Dundalk native, with his deeply authentic approach to his craft earning him comparisons to legends like Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley.
Now, with the release of his debut album, Keenan is set to make his mark on the world – as evidenced by the glowing international reviews of A Beginner's Guide To Bravery. The album also topped Irish charts as last week's best-selling record on vinyl.
"The night is a triumph," Pat Carty wrote in his review of Keenan's Olympia headliner. "The album A Beginner’s Guide To Bravery may be less than a week old but it is already the first great record of the year, the young man has transmogrified himself into an artist through sheer force of will, realising his own vision and bringing more people to it every day. Who knows where this will go?"
