Ahead of the Nevada native's album release, Shamir released 'Caught Up' – the final teaser track to be taken from the LP – yesterday.
The synth-led pop track is an instant ear-worm. The bright '80s influences are in stark contrast to the weighty, revelatory lyrics. 'Caught Up' is the fourth single to be shared from the artist's eighth studio album Heterosexuality – having been proceeded by the equally pulsing 'Reproductive', 'Cisgender' and 'Gay Agenda'.
Listen to the track below.
All ten tracks on Heterosexuality concern themselves with the various traumas Shamir has experienced as an artist shoved inside many boxes. Shamir laces each offering with unbridled honesty, facing wounds head-on.

“I think this album is me finally acknowledging my trauma. Everyone knows I’ve been through so much shit and I kind of just rammed through, without really acknowledging the actual trauma that I do feel on almost a daily basis,” Shamir said of the album.
When Shamir became a teenage sensation back in 2014 with their debut single 'On The Regular', all public attention was turned towards their gender identity rather than the music they were putting out.
"It was rare that I would interview and anyone would want to talk about my music – like, at all ... it was just about my identity, my sexuality as a 19-year-old," Shamir told NPR.
After a hasty retreat from the public eye – and many releases later – Heterosexuality sees the indie-rock singer back in the spotlight, unfiltered and fighting back against reductive labels.
Hot Press' Kate Brayden reviewed the new album ahead of its release.
"Philadelphia-based indie star Shamir has returned with a project that feels considerably more DIY and infinitely more honest, facing up to past traumas in a fiercely unapologetic musical manner," the review reads.
"As a non-binary Black artist with a piercingly high countertenor voice, Shamir stands out from the crowd. This time, with purpose."
