It's being hailed by Apple CEO Tim Cook as "the biggest leap forward" in mobile technology, but that didn't stop social media going into near total meltdown last night at the new iPhone X's exorbitant price.
The new and much improved iPhone X will set you back "from" a staggering €1,179 if you live in Europe, according to the prices first published late last night on Apple's Irish website.
It's the first time that a so-called "basic" model of an Apple phone will break the €1,000 barrier here and right across the EU.
And many social media commentators are being quick to point out this morning that the new iPhone will "only" cost $999 in the USA, which is approximately €835 at today’s exchange rate.
Apple have also announced plans for iPhone 8 and a new Apple Watch. Again, the iPhone 8 appears as if it will be considerably cheaper in America; the 4.7" version of iPhone 8 starts at €829, or is listed at a price of $699 in the USA, and the 5.5" starts at €939, or is listed at $799 in America.
While the Apple Watch Series 3 starts at €379, according to Apple's European websites, but will only set you back $329 according to their US website.
According to Apple, the new iPhone X is "the future". It certainly gives much more bang for buck, or euro. It boasts a super Retina display that takes up the entire front of the phone and doesn't even have a home touchscreen button.
It's the first OLED screen that "rises to the standards of iPhone, with accurate, stunning colours, true blacks, high brightness, and a 1,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio".
It's the first phone that comes with Face ID technology meaning that, yes, "your face is now your password!" Apple explain, "Face ID is enabled by the TrueDepth camera and is simple to set up. It projects and analyses more than 30,000 invisible dots to create a precise depth map of your face."
And the screens boasts "the most durable glass ever in a smartphone, front and back. Surgical‑grade stainless steel. Wireless charging. Water and dust resistance."
It boasts lots more extra features, including an improved camera. But the price tag of over €1,000 will be out of reach of your average punter...
Here's some of the hilarious and angry Tweets and memes about iPhone X sweeping the Internet this morning...
