Met Éireann has issued both a Status Orange and Status Yellow weather warning effective from today, due to expected freezing temperatures and snowfall.
Bearing down on Ireland, Storm Emma or the “Beast From The East” has sparked numerous precautions and advice from national media sources along with Met Éireann, since Monday. Temperatures will from 4 to -1 degrees, and added windchill will further affect this.
Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Laois, Louth, Wicklow and Meath have been given a Status Orange warning where it is expected that Tuesday will bring scattered snow showers and up to 6 cm by Wednesday morning, along with widespread frost and ice.
Up to 3 cm of snowfall is meanwhile expected in Kilkenny, Longford, Wexford, Offaly, Westmeath, Cork, Tipperary and Waterford.
But in Ireland, a Siberian cold front approaching the country in March won’t get away without some level of mockery - and even anticipation. Facts and practical advice aside, there’s always something to point out and laugh at when it comes to the Irish weather.
We must be the only country in the world that is excited about a potential severe downfall of snow. The kids mad to build snowmen and the adults buzzing for a couple of days off work ? #BeastFromTheEast

The Clonskeagh Mosque has also announced that it will be opening the doors to those in need of warmth and shelter overnight, with food and blankets available.
Whether the storm is as severe as expected or not, road users across the country are also being encouraged to ensure their cars are in a sufficient condition to drive on the roads and that they are prepared for delays and traffic jams in the worst case. People are also being encouraged to check in with elderly family members and neighbours, should they need any assistance prior to the snowfall.
