Comedian Bob Goldthwait gives us reasons to believe he’s an eccentric fellow with this adorable indie comedy.
Bloody hell. Comedian Bob Goldthwait has long given us reasons to believe he’s an eccentric fellow, but there can’t be many people would dedicate their film to “mom” before opening with a girl’s candid confession – “My name is Amy and yes, at college I blew my dog.” Oh my.
Years later, Amy (Hamilton, in a beautifully judged turn) is engaged to John (Johnson), in what seems like a match. Pressured by her fiancé into confiding a secret she has never told anyone, Amy reveals her brush with bestiality and all hell breaks loose.
John simply cannot shake the image from his head. Worse, her confession takes place during the weekend she takes him home to meet her parents, and is overheard by her jealous drug-addict brother, Dougie (Plotnick) who promptly divulges the details at the next family dinner. Suddenly, Amy is a pariah and her entire life falls apart before she can put it back together.
Happily, for all the superficial shock value, Goldthwait has fashioned an adorable indie comedy with sage advice for the former sexual adventurer – if in doubt, lie.
