Word to the wise
When a smartphone comes priced at €79.99 the inevitable question will be “what’s the catch?” Vodafone Ireland’s Smart Speed 6, which gives you a cent change from €80, might be cheap but it doesn’t compromise on ability. The phone is rigged with 4G, which has 90% population coverage around the country, making this smartphone faster than a sneeze through a screen door.
The device is equipped with a 1.1 GHz quad-core chipset, supported by 1GB of RAM. Stuff apps, videos and photos into the 8GB of internal memory, pumped up to 32GB with a microSD card. The camera has 5 megapixels on the rear, and 2MP at the front.
Smart Speed keeps trucking for a day before crying out for the recharger. Not a long time really, but for €79.99, what can you expect? Android’s Lollipop 5.1 operating system, cannily, includes a feature that extends battery life by up to 90 minutes.
