The third single to be taken from their upcoming debut album is a stunningly-crafted pop song. Photo: Ste Murray.
Soda Blonde continue to tease their highly-anticipated debut album Small Talk – this time with the release of 'Holy Roses', its delicious third single. The Dublin-based quartet are due to release their definitive debut on July 9, via Velveteen Records,
Beginning with calming, low-and-slow verses, the track rings out like a battle cry in an explosive chorus. 'Holy Roses' – no doubt one of the strongest on their album – is soaring and exquisite, playing with traditional elements of pop and turning them inside out.
"So many of us use rejection as fuel to justify stagnancy or living in the past," O'Rourke says. 'Holy Roses' provides me with some closure, and I feel it’s one of the most important tracks on the album. I am directly addressing the people in my past who have hurt me in this song. The Rose is symbolic of war and the fleetingness of life and death. It also represents the fall of Christianity, which I compare not only to our country’s dying Catholic status but to the oppression I felt throughout my own personal and work life. 'Holy Roses' is the moment of reckoning for me, in all respects. I’m letting go of the people who have hurt me and my old way of living."
