It promises to be a big night at the Sound House on April 10, when Somebody's Child will be supported by State Lights and Elkae, for a showcase gig...
Somebody's Child has announced a headline Dublin date. Already the subject of a huge amount of A&R attention, the young Dubliner is set to play Sound House on Wednesday April 10. This will be his last Dublin date before the summer.
Somebody’s Child was one of Hot Press ‘Hot for 2019’ selections earlier this year. Since then, he has played a sold-out show in Whelan’s Upstairs, which was his first headlining show in the capital. There was a strong presence at the gig of A&R scouts, as well as agents and other industry talent-spotters. The word is that there will be an even bigger contingent at the upcoming Sound House show.
“The buzz is building,” one record company insider told Hot Press. “I’m not sure that’s good for me, because it means that there’s going to be competition for his signature. But we’ll have to see how it evolves. When you see what the likes fo Dermot Kennedy, Fontaines DC and Wild Youth have achieved in a relatively short space of time, it's clear that there’s a huge appetite for artists coming out of Ireland. Somebody’s Child could be next in line."
Somebody’s Child’s debut single ‘Make You Alright’, released in September last year, was lavishly praised by Dave Fanning and Dan Hegarty of 2fm, Roddy Cleere of KCLR and Tony Clayton Lea of the Irish Times.
"Somebody’s Child sounds like the real deal,” Hot Press editor Niall Stokes said at the time. "I was reminded first of Kurt Cobain, and then of Rod Stewart – which is a strange but fascinating one-two! 'Make You Alright’ is a powerful track with a really big chorus. What’s tantalising is that I can immediately hear it being sung by massive crowds at festivals. The potential here is huge.”

His latest single ’Toes’ was produced by Ross Dowling, who has worked with James Vincent McMorrow, Talos and Bell X1. Since its release, Toes has reached over 75,000 streams across Spotify and Soundcloud, No. 1 on the Hype Machine charts, No. 26 on Irish Shazam charts and has been play-listed on all national radio stations.
"We're hugely excited to play the Sound House,” Somebody's Child told Hot Press. "It's our last show in Dublin before the festival season and so we are really excited to be able to give our growing fanbase the opportunity to see all the work we've put into making our show what it is.
"There's a couple of surprises in there,” he adds. "We have a festival worthy line-up in place, with State Lights and Elkae as special guests. We think it will be a great night. See you there."
Somebody’s Child will also play Sea Sessions and Indie19 amongst other festivals during the summer.
