The track is a re-recording of a 2020 demo that Godfrey wrote in just 20 minutes.
Somebody's Child (real name Cian Godfrey) has put out a new single and accompanying video 'We Could Start a War.' The 23-year-old also made the exciting announcement of a self-titled debut album to be released on the 3rd of February via Frenchkiss Records.
Godfrey's passionate and wonderfully raspy vocals are showcased in this song, along with its colorful alternative guitar and drums. The lyrics are poignant and heartfelt, as he sings "We could start a war/ or we could live in peace/ so what the fuck are we fighting for/ what are we hoping to achieve?"
The track is a re-recording of a demo Godfrey put out in 2020. This is a special piece to the Irish artist: "the original version was a demo I wrote in 20 minutes or so and Shea produced in our little makeshift studio in Dublin. We spent 50 quid on artwork and just put it out, now it's our biggest song.
"This is now the real version I guess. The timing is also serendipitous because the video is about where it was written, and the juxtaposition between beauty in tradition, and the ugly face of gentrification of which both are in abundance."
The video- directed by Adrian Lee- aims to capture the struggle between a love for Dublin and disdain for its evolution toward "sterility and gentrification." Godfrey was forced to leave his hometown of Dublin due to "not being able to afford life" in the city he loves.

The upcoming LP will contain songs both old and new. It will "[look] steadfastly towards the future while acknowledging what has got him to this point." Somebody's Child is a "melting pot" of Godfrey's influences, including '80s synths and mid/late 2000s indie rock guitar riffs.
Tickets are on sale now to Somebody's Child's worldwide tour, which includes a debut at festival South by Southwest.
