After many suggestions from the fan’s side and many delays from the producer’s side, 20th Century Fox has now revealed the release date for the Avatar sequel. The movie is planned to arrive in December 2018.
Even though 2009 seems like a long time ago, everyone will remember when James Cameron’s box office success Avatar hit the cinemas. With receipts of over 2.78 billion US dollars it had the highest box office gross ever and caused a huge excitement among the viewers. Everybody was fascinated by Pandora and its blue inhabitants.
Since then, James Cameron kept teasing sequels – two at first, later raising to three and then again to four – for which the fans kept waiting in vain.
Cameron first announced the sequel films starting in the cinemas in December 2014 with the next one following in 2015. The initial date was then pushed back to December 2016 and then, in 2015, it was announced that the release had been set back to December 2017 – which was delayed again. Cameron blamed the ‘very involved’ writing process for the wait.

Now it seems to be that the Avatar 2 release date may finally be fixed. The movie is expected to be ready for the screens on December 21, 2018. Cameron wants the sequels to come out ‘as close together as possible’ which is why it’s intended to film the 4 sequels simultaneously. He said the third, fourth and fifth films are planned for 2020, 2022 and 2023.
The audience can also look forward to seeing Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana & co again: The Avatar cast is on contract and so will reappear in Avatar 2. The sequels are said to follow Jake (Sam Worthington) Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and their children's "battle with humans”.
