After reforming in 2008, The Specials have announced a date at the Olympia Theatre, Dublin next year.
Originally formed in 1977, The Specials did much to carve out a space in which danceable beats could co-exist with punk energy and politically informed lyrics. Yet, despite seven top ten singles and two top 5 albums, the band went their separate ways after a mere two and a half years together.
The demand for their reunion was still strong 30 years later when they reformed for a one-off surprise performance at the Bestival festival. Re-awakening their love for playing live, the first official tour of their reunion sold out rapidly in 2009, and the desire from fans, new and old, to see one of the most iconic bands in the U.K's musical history was cemented. The Specials went on to play over 200 shows worldwide including Coachella, Live on the Letterman Show, Summersonic, Montreal Jazz Festival and many more besides.
However, when drummer and founding member John Bradbury died suddenly in 2015 the band's future was unclear.
They have since decided to continue their legacy and inspire fans young and old by touring worldwide.
