Meet The New Boss
Following on from the announcement of a new album, Western Stars, Bruce Springsteen released that record's first single over night. As promised, the song goes in a sixties pop direction, with more than a little bit of the influence of Harry Nilsson's 1969 classic 'Everybody's Talkin'' being evident.
Springsteen told Variety late last year that the "record is influenced by Southern California pop music of the ’70s, Glen Campbell, Jimmy Webb, Burt Bacharach, those kinds of records. I don’t know if people will hear those influences, but that was what I had in my mind. It gave me something to hook an album around; it gave me some inspiration to write. And also, it’s a singer-songwriter record. It’s connected to my solo records writing-wise, more ‘Tunnel of Love’ and ‘Devils and Dust,’ but it’s not like them at all. Just different characters living their lives.”
While Springsteen has already confirmed that there will not be an E-Street Band tour in 2019, we can still keep all our extremities crossed that there might be a few shows to promote the album, which is set to be released on June 14th.
