Sunset Overdrive - Tech Review
Fizz kids
What do you get when you cross the street-grinding antics of Jet Set Radio, the open world mania of Crackdown, and Dead Rising’s crazy weapon-building? Sunset Overdrive, that’s what. This game is like overdosing on caffeine at a rave in a paint factory.
According to the backstory, the residents of Sunset City mutated into monsters after guzzling a new energy drink. You and a few survivors are humanity’s best hope. God help humanity.
Start off by customising a character. Then learn the ropes: sliding along train tracks, swinging off poles, bouncing on cars, and blasting mutants to smithereens. The ridiculous arsenal includes teddy bear launchers – this game’s tongue is wagging firmly in its cheek.
Missions usually involve retrieving items. Not much imagination there but the multiplayer modes give the anarchy added fizz, while the environments are so colourful they make Las Vegas look like Leitrim. Utterly bonkers, yet one of Xbox One’s best titles to date.
