Teenagers' spending reportedly soared by 63% across the weekend
Following Taylor Swift's phenomenal three-night run at the Aviva Stadium last weekend, Bank of Ireland are reporting that the impact of 'Swiftonomics' sparked a 17% total rise in spending in Dublin.
According to Investopedia, Swiftonomics refers to the economic influence of Taylor Swift – with her Eras Tour having been "credited with boosting local economies" at the various cities it has stopped off at, as fans spend money on "lodging, food, transportation, and merchandise."
Bank of Ireland's Spending Pulse – which analyses debit and credit card spending – found that, compared to the weekend before, teenagers' (13 to 17-year-olds) spending soared by 63% across the weekend of June 27-30.
Spending also increased by 25% for those aged between 18 to 25, and by 30% among 26 to 35-year-olds.
Record shops, meanwhile, recorded a 19% spending boost, while spending on Spotify streams rose by 20%.

Other industries also felt a boost – with beauty spa spending up 34%, and social spending (on pubs, restaurants, fast food etc) up 13%. The Dublin 1 locality experienced a 38% hike, as fans visited the Era Tour merch shop in the 3Arena in their droves.
Even toll fee spending on Irish motorways reportedly increased by 20%, as fans travelled from all around the country across the busy weekend – which also featured major events like Longitude, Pride, Fairview Park gigs, and the All-Ireland Football Quarter Finals.
“We have witnessed the impact of ‘Swiftonomic’s across cities worldwide, and Taylor’s Eras Tour coming to Dublin was unlikely to make her an ‘Anti-Hero’ amongst business owners," comments Owen Clifford, Head of Retail Sector at Bank of Ireland. "A capital city event becoming the focus of national attention shows the range of her appeal, and the latest card spending insights reveal that her fans embraced the occasion and splashed out accordingly.
“Spending in central Dublin areas boomed last weekend as Pride revellers and GAA fans also joined the party, with a 144% rise in Dublin 3 social spending catching my eye," he continues. "Overall, the weekend’s festivities provide a tangible boost to a variety of sectors, and Taylor’s fans can only hope that they won’t have to wait another six years before she writes another Irish-themed ‘Love Story’.”
