At a graduation event in May, Taylor Swift will receive her honorary degree and address the class of 2022.
Musical icon Taylor Swift will be celebrated by New York University with an honorary degree. The Grammy-winning artist is also slated to speak to the university's graduating class at Yankee Stadium on May 18th.
The singer is set to receive a Doctorate of Fine Arts, honoris causa, before addressing the event that will uplift not only the class of 2022, but also the classes of 2021 and 2020 whose graduations were affected by the pandemic.
“Since 2019, we have been deprived of Commencement’s festive, communal joy, and its absence has been keenly felt,” says NYU President Andrew Hamilton. “We reconvene at Yankee Stadium with a renewed sense of appreciation for the act of celebrating together in person, a recognition of our graduates’ enormous achievements, and a respect for their character and perseverance.”
In a statement announcing Swift's attendance, the prestigious institution called her “one of the most prolific and celebrated artists of her generation” before listing her various accomplishments including her 11-time Grammy wins and being named BRIT Awards International Female Solo Artist of the Year in 2015.
In addition to her degree, the University will also honour the singer/songwriter with a new course on her music to be taught at their renowned Clive Davis Institute.
