Pavel Barter rounds up all the news, reviews and previews in the tech and gaming world this fortnight.
There’s a whiff of Star Wars about EA’s new game universe. In Anthem, players fight the forces of evil. Not by climbing into TIE fighters but into Javelins: customised exo-suits with unique weapons and special abilities. These extra-terrestrial revolutionaries have their own rebel base: a fortified settlement where players receive new missions.
The third-person shoot-em-up action recalls Mass Effect. BioWare, who made that sexy sci-fi series, are the svengalis behind Anthem so no suprise there. In EA’s recent demo, we found Forza-levels of customisation of the flying space suits during the co-op multiplayer quests. Star Wars might not be hanging up its lightsabres just yet, but Anthem could take on Destiny for dominance of the galaxy. Before, EA should probably sort out its server issues in advance of the February 22 release, which left some demo players locked out of the fun.
