Deep Silver are a dab hand at gritty urban adventures.
This War Of Mine: The Little Ones released earlier this year, explored the desperate realities of war, in which pockets of survivors foraged for food in a world where anarchy reigned.
Deadlight is a by-the-numbers zombie story, in which a lone survivor tries to navigate the holocaust. Fitting that the game is set in 1986, since the voiceover seems to be straight from a Chuck Norris flick. But there’s something quaintly cult-like about the adventure, in which you run through grimy 2D landscapes – streets, warehouses, tunnels, homes – climbing walls and solving environmental puzzles. The character eventually gets a gun, and blasts zombies rather than hopping over them. It’s an engrossing world, full of smart themes, although we’re not sure the couple of extra modes or concept art merits a revisit for anyone who played the original 2012 game.
