Listen to a taster of The 1975's forthcoming single 'Part of the Band', dropping on July 7th.
London pop-rock band The 1975 have been doing a soft launch of their new music after two years of radio silence. Starting with cryptic billboards featuring band member Matt Healy around the English capital, posters with a few (unconfirmed) lyrics and now an Instagram post of an audio clip have also circulated.
The post, shared on Healy's Instagram page (@trumanblack), has flighty saxophone runs muddled by some indistinguishable talking in the background.
The caption starts with the same title of their coming single, 'Part of the Band'. Underneath it is a long string of text, presumably the lyrics to the upcoming song.
"Am I ironically woke? The butt of my joke? Or I am just some post-coke, average, skinny bloke calling his ego imagination?" the subject questions, referencing heroin binges, Rimbaud, Paul Verlaine and "Vaccinista tote bag chic baristas".

The new single is expected to drop next Thursday, July 7th. The band have confirmed a fifth studio album is on the way via Dirty Hit, but its title and the release date have yet to be announced.
Their last album, Notes On A Conditional Form, was also released back in 2020. Since then they've released two remixes: 'Spinning' in collaboration with Charli XCX and 'Spinning' (A.G. Cook Remixes). In addition to new music, this year also marks the return of The 1975 to live performances.
Their last Irish gig was in Dublin's 3Arena back in 2020. The four-piece band are set to make their return in Japan this August at Summer Sonic Festival.
