MJ Rodriguez has made history as the first trans woman to be nominated in a major acting category.
The nominations for the 2021 Emmy Awards have been announced.
The nominations were announced during a livestreamed event earlier today, hosted by father-daughter acting duo and last years Emmy winners Ron Cephas Jones and Jasmine Cephas Jones.
Content from streaming sites like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney Plus are dominating the nominations, with The Crown and Bridgerton (Netflix), The Boys (Amazon Prime) and The Mandalorian (Disney Plus) all nominated for Best Drama Series.
Also nominated for The Crown are stars Olivia Colman and Emma Corrin, both up for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, where they are joined by Uzo Aduba, Elisabeth Moss, Jurnee Smollett and Mj Rodriguez, who has made history as the first ever trans woman nominated for a Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series award, for her work in Fox's Pose.
Her co-star Billy Porter has also been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the third time, after winning in 2019. He's joined in that category by Sterling K. Brown, Jonathan Majors, Josh O’Connor, Regé Jean Page and Matthew Rhys.
Kate Winslet is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for HBO's gritty detective drama Mare Of Easttown. Her fellow nominees include Cynthia Erivo, Anya Taylor-Joy, Michaela Coel and Elizabeth Olsen.
Micheala Coel's I May Destroy You has been nominated for Best Limited Series, along with Mare of Easttown, The Queen’s Gambit, The Underground Railroad and WandaVision.
Bo Burnham: Inside, David Byrne’s American Utopia, Friends: The Reunion, and Hamilton have all been nominated for Variety Special (Pre-Recorded), while The Amazing Race, Nailed It! RuPaul's Drag Race, Top Chef and The Voice are all up for Outstanding Competition Programme.
The nominees for Outstanding Variety Talk Series are Conan, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, will take place Sept. 19 on CBS and Paramount Plus at 1am Irish time. Read the full list of nominees below:
