Mihaela Noroc travelled through dozens of countries for five years to tell the stories of the women whom she photographed in the context of their own cultures. She is of the opinion that beauty knows no norms.
The Atlas of Beauty is a book that presents a fresh perspective on the global lives of women today. This startling collection is created from Mihaela Noroc, a 32-year-old photographer from Romania who has travelled the world with her camera taking photos of everyday women to showcase the diversity of beauty. The online photography project features portraits of 500 women from more than 50 countries; she introduced also the stories of some inspiring women whom she encountered on her journey, showing that the spiritual and physical beauty can be found everywhere.
In 2013, the photographer started to travel to different countries like Iran, Peru, Colombia, Myanmar, China, Latvia, Georgia and Indonesia. She often met women simply walking on the street and took their portraits with the intention to capture that moment of sincerity and serenity that is so specific for every woman.
"Diversity in the world is a treasure, not a cause for conflict," she said to Zeit Online. Mihaela wants every woman to feel strong and beautiful, free of all norms. She is of the opinion that we could find beauty everywhere - if we only open up our eyes a little bit more.
