90s alt-rockers The Charlatans have been announced for the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival and will play Cork City Hall on October 27th.
The rapidly rising Irish indie-rock quartet Pillow Queens will join the UK band on the night in Cork. Macy Gray, Corienne Bailey Rae, Morcheeba, Matthew Halsall and Grammy award winning Kurt Elling are among the headline acts to perform at this year's Guinness Cork Jazz Festival over the October bank holiday weekend (Thursday, 26th October to Monday, 30th October 2023).
Formed in the West Midlands area of the UK in 1998, The Charlatans became a major part of the "Madchester" sound of the decade, along with their contemporaries The Stone Roses and the Happy Mondays. All thirteen of The Charlatans studio albums have charted in the top 40 of the UK Albums Chart, three of them at number one.
They have clocked up 22 top 40 singles and four top 10 entries in the UK Singles Chart, including the hits ‘The Only One I Know’ and ‘One to Another’.

Their rollercoaster highs have been accompanied by some shattering lows, any which one of them could have felled a less resilient band, from nervous breakdowns to near bankruptcy and the deaths of two founder members. Somehow, the band have not just carried on but adapted and transformed. The classic Charlatans sound – driving Hammond organ, Northern Soul and house-influenced rhythms, swaggering guitars and Tim Burgess’ sunny yet yearning vocal – is instantly recognisable. Their trajectory has had few parallels in British rock as they continue to sell out tours and headline festivals around the world.
Dublin stars Pillow Queens (Pamela Connolly, Sarah Corcoran, Cathy McGuinness, and Rachel Lyons) recently played two sold out Vicar Street shows along with two more in Cork off the back of a successful campaign for their sophomore album Leave the Light On.
