The awards ceremony, hosted by Tina Fey in New York and Amy Poehler in Los Angeles, takes place on Sunday, February 28th.
The Golden Globe nominations have been announced by former winners Taraji P Henson and Sarah Jessica Parker.
The award show season is in full swing, despite the ongoing pandemic. In terms of Irish talent, Brendan Gleeson bagged a nomination for his role as Donald Trump in The Comey Rule while Daisy Edgar-Jones has been honoured in the Actress in a Limited Series or Film for portraying Marianne Sheridan in the BBC/Hulu hit drama Normal People. The Sally Rooney-scripted show has also been nominated in the Best Limited Series, TV Movie or Miniseries category, while Irish film Wolfwalkers was noted in the Best Motion Picture, Animated field. Saoirse Ronan and Jessie Buckley missed out on further Irish nominations for their roles in Ammonite and Fargo respectively.
The Crown, Promising Young Woman, Schitt's Creek, The Undoing, Ratchet, and The Queen's Gambit all received nods, while Chadwick Boseman, Anya Taylor-Joy, Amanda Siefried , Helena Bonham Carter, Olivia Coleman, Regina King, Carey Mulligan, Gillian Anderson, Viola Davis, Sacha Baron Cohen, Glenn Close and Donald Sutherland are all up for awards.
The resulting list, revealed by Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji P. Henson, was full of quarantine favourite films and TV shows as well as surprise nominees (Emily in Paris...). Paul Mescal missed out on a Best Actor in a Limited Series or Film category for Normal People, while Michaela Coel's massively powerful BBC/HBO drama I May Destroy You was snubbed - scooping zero nominations.
