The 'Eight-App' will keep users informed of upcoming events regarding the 'Repeal' movement.
Designed, coded and tested by a group of people who support the 8th Amendment being repealed come May, there is now an app that contains information regarding all upcoming 'Repeal' events nationwide.
The '8-App' is described as "An app for the pro choice movement, [which] hopes to spark conversation, provide information and increase visibility of the Repeal the 8th movement. It's a platform for people to share their stories, learn and participate.
Upon downloading the app, you are met with three slides designed to help promote discourse about what the 8th Amendment means for Irish women - for example, Do you think all women and girls should have the choice to decide what to do with their own bodies?
The app employs numerous methods of spurring you on in helping support the overall movement. 'Eight' encourages users to upload black-and-white selfies identifying supporters of the Repeal movement, an action that comes from the Twitter hashtag and account titled #KnowYourRepealers. The account is managed by a different individual each week, showcasing a variety of thoughts, opinions and information as the person reveals their work and background surrounding the cause.
For those who don't know me, I'm from Grandparents for Repeal. @grans4repeal. The name is pretty self-explanatory really! Mind you, we're happy to have all sorts of oldies, but Everyone Well Past Reproductive Age for Repeal doesn't exactly trip off the tongue...Look us up on fb.

A newly added feature also displays a list of information about various local and national events, aiming pro-choice units representing a county that wish to further inform and educate their own community on the 8th Amendment. The list is also accessible from tapping into a map of Ireland, with geotags showing the location of the events and organisations.

Containing all the information you need to know about events - time, date, even where to buy tickets - the '8' app is a fantastic little concept to keep you involved in the campaign. But it could also be helpful for those who still have not decided their full stance on the matter at hand. The action of educating and informing yourself in the run-up to the referendum is crucial and now thanks to '8', it looks to have become easier.
The app '8' is available on both the App Store and Google Play, free of charge.
