The Mary Walloper’s new album Irish Rock N Roll is available for pre-order now.
Irish trad rock outfit The Mary Wallopers have announced their new album Irish Rock N Roll will be released on October 6.
To mark the announcement, the group have a released a new song titled ‘Wexford’. The traditional ballad is the second single from their upcoming full-length project, following up from ‘The Holy Ground’ which came out in April.
“The song was written by Pecker Dunne, who was a travelling musician. He brought so many songs into circulation over the years he played, you’ll have heard the Dubliners playing a lot of his songs,” said The Mary Walloper’s Andrew Hendy on their latest track. “It touches on his upbringing and on the grief that travellers suffer in Ireland which is something that’s not really talked about much. It’s an incredible, emotional song.”

The Mary Wallopers were formed by brothers Charles and Andrew Hendy and their friend Sean McKenna as the trio travelled across Ireland singing and collecting songs. During lockdown, they built an online following playing livestreams from their home studio. In the years since, the band have expanded to a seven piece and built a fierce reputation as a live act.
Irish Rock N Roll promises to be a record that captures the chaos and humour of the band’s live performances, while also showcasing the emotional potency of Irish traditional ballads.
