The Mountain Goats have announced a show at Vicar Street on November 18th, marking their largest Irish tour date yet.
Formed by singer-songwriter John Darnielle in 1991, The Mountain Goats rose into prominence after releasing a series of home-made cassettes and vinyls throughout the 90s. They released their debut studio album in 1994, and since have been incredibly prolific. Their latest release, Dark In Here, is the group's 20th studio album.
Centering on the need to create, the first five years of the group saw limited release numbers that spanned labels and countries, their music mostly available on CD, cassette and vinyl. During this era, they released The Hound Chronicles, Hot Garden Stomp and Transmissions to Horace.
A Chronicle of The Last Pagans, a 2020 album, is also the band's return to origins. Unable to tour due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Darnielle dusted off his tape deck, recording ten new songs in a direct-to-boombox approach the band hasn't utilised since their 2002 album All Hail West Texas. The result: an album that perfectly captures The Mountain Goats' alternative folk sound, blending together past and present.
Having previously played The Button Factory and Whelan's, Vicar Street is the biggest Dublin show yet for the California-based outfit.
