The film, directed by Kathryn Ferguson, initially released before O'Connor's passing earlier this year.
The 2022 Sinéad O'Connor documentary Nothing Compares received the Rose d'Or Award for Arts at an awards ceremony in London last night.
Directed by Kathryn Ferguson for Sky, Nothing Compares charts Sinéad OʼConnorʼs phenomenal rise to worldwide fame and examines how she used her voice at the height of her stardom before her iconoclastic personality led to her exile from the pop mainstream.
Focusing on O’Connor’s prophetic words and deeds from 1987 to 1993, the film presents an authoritative, richly cinematic portrait of this fearless artist through a contemporary feminist lens.
Upon accepting the award, Ferguson said, "It was a huge privilege to make Nothing Compares and to do so with Sinéad’s blessing. As I’m sure you’re all very aware, we lost her this summer which was devastating. Ironically, it seems she had to pass for the full impact of her bravery, her extraordinary talent and her importance as a truth-teller to be fully realised and appreciated."
Sinéad O'Connor passed away in July of this year, just days before Nothing Compares was due to premiere on streaming services. In the months following her passing, tributes from all around the world have poured in, celebrating her life, music and activism.
