The Superior Sessions was launched by Thornton Pianos in September 2020 to help artists maintain their platform when Covid restrictions closed all traditional avenues for live performance.
Nathan Mac, Jacob Koopman, Muireann, Gemma Cox, Megan Burke, Colm Gavin, Martin McDonnell, Sophie Doyle Ryder, Pastiche, Seán Rooney and internationally renowned pianist David Syme are set to perform a special Superior Sessions concert from the the Bord Gais Energy Theatre on July 10th.
Featuring special guest The Dublin Writer, the evening will see musical collaborations from Irish talent, who joined forces on 2020's Superior Sessions live album.
Thornton Pianos actively became involved in the Superior Sessions last year, initiating the production and release of the album and accompanying videos. In doing so, Thornton Pianos created a platform to showcase emerging Irish talent. The company have been looking after families and industry professionals since Desmond Thornton opened the business in 1968, providing premium reconditioned and new pianos for over 50 years – with all restoration works being completed in their on-site workshop.
Once the album was released earlier this year, Alan Thornton of Thornton Pianos decided the next natural step was to schedule a concert which reflected and honoured the beautiful long play audio. Without delay, it was decided the host venue for the independent gig would be Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.
Alongside providing work for crew and musicians during these difficult months, Thornton Pianos also wanted to raise funds for a worthy cause. The Irish company chose Minding Creative Minds as the beneficiary of proceeds from its Bord Gáis Energy Theatre show, having recorded last month on the hand built Ritmüller RS280 Concert Grand.
“Anyone who purchases a ticket will gain exclusive access to the concert on July 10th and ticket purchasers will also be entered into a draw to win a Ritmüller Superior 122 Upright piano + package worth €6,500," Alan Thornton of Thornton Pianos said of the brilliant prize, which Republic of Ireland residents can apply for.

"We have been blown away by the response to The Superior Sessions, people have been buying and streaming the album all around the world and we passed one million views on all the videos for our emerging artists and we cannot wait for everyone to see our Concert from the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre,” Alan added.
Alan's aim is to virtually sell out the venue - all 2,111 seats. Given the range of impressive talent who shared their gifts on the night and the inclusion of the incredible pianist David Syme; we predict tickets will fly out the door.
Tickets €20 are on sale now from The Superior Sessions' website.
