Leitir Mealláin in Conamara – the hometown of McDonagh’s father – has paid an unusually cool tribute to the film director.
After the film 'Three Billboards...' swept the boards at the BAFTAs, the town honoured the film director by erecting three billboards of their own on the side of the road there that read “Comhghairdeas Martin McDonagh”, “Réalt Mór Leitir Mealláin” and “Réalt Mór Hollywood”.
For those whose Irish is rusty, these translates as: “Congratulations Martin McDonagh," and "Big Star of Leitir Mealláin", and "Big Star of Hollywood”.
The director's latest film has also been nominated for seven Oscars....
