The single, set to release on August 14, credits the stars of 1970s music such as Suzi Quatro and Elton John.
Tommy Keyes is preparing for the release of his single 'Suzi Quatro (Teenage Discos '73)' from his forthcoming seventh album Storytime, dropping September 14.
Tommy Keyes was the keyboard player for Sidewinder, a centrepiece of the late '70s Dublin rock scene, writing many of the bands most popular songs. Nearly 40 years later, Keyes has returned with a large repertoire of tracks that amalgamate rock, pop, blues, and so on. The musician describes his genre as "1970s singer-songwriter music, because that’s what I am."
'Suzi Quatro (Teenage Discos '73)' follows a similar path of indescribable genre. Recreating the classic chart sound of the early 1970s, this track pays homage to musical legends like Suzi Quatro and Elton John.
Veteran music journalist Jackie Hayden divulged: "Tommy had sent me this terrific track and I thought it would be interesting to see what the legend herself(Suzi Quatro) thought of it, so I reached out to her." Quatro replied to her saying:
"I like it.

'Suzi Quatro (Teenage Discos '73)' will be the first single from Tommy's forthcoming album, featuring sax player Richie Buckley who has performed and recorded numerous times with Van Morrison. The single is set for release on August 14, with the album following exactly a month later on September 14.
In an interview with Jackie Hayden, Tommy described his musical upbringing: "My mother was very musical, my father less so.

"They sent me off for piano lessons when I was 8 or 9. That didn’t last long, I didn’t take very well to the discipline required for formal lessons. But I’m so grateful that they still decided to plunge money they couldn’t really spare on a second-hand piano.
I would sit at it every day and pick out the notes of songs I had heard on the radio and slowly but surely I taught myself to play. I still have that piano. It’s a Bechstein, it’s now almost 120 years old and I play it every day. Pretty much all of my songs have been written on it."
Chart success came Keyes' way when his single 'Christmas Eve in Dublin' climbed to number one in the Irish iTunes singer-songwriter chart, in November 2017. The musician's second number one arrived with 'Walk Away', in September 2020, achieving further top spots with 'Any Other World', 'Radio Days' and 'The Emigrants' Blues'.
