Our Track of the Day comes from Dublin singer-songwriter James Galvo Parker and his stunning debut single "The Weight".
"The Weight" is a beautifully crafted song, set in the midst of an emotional storm, reflecting the turbulence of love, relationships and the heartache that goes alongside.
The song is set in the midst of Storm Ophelia, lyrically reflecting a series of events (both literal and metaphorical) that occurred during the time, through a musical journey of atmospheric, intense indie-folk in a similar vein to artists such as Glen Hansard and Bon Iver.
As Parker explains, “sometimes the weight of love can envelop and pull you down, sometimes there is no choice but to step into the storm and drown.” Fittingly, the song takes us on an emotional journey of irretrievable loss mediated on by the moving piano and string arrangements.
"The Weight" is released on James's own label, Rebel Beat Records. The song was recorded, mixed and mastered at Porchlight Studios by producer Niall Woods who is a part of the recording collective 'A Dark Horse' along with Parker and Hugh Rodgers, whose musical talents also feature in the single.

The music video is a stunning portrait of the song's emotional turmoil with scenic displays of the Irish coast, from Parker's directorial debut short film 'Fragment', shot and edited by Ciaran O'Donnell.
Not only a talented songwriter, James is also a working actor based in Dublin & London, recently appearing in Mark O'Rowe's The Delinquent Season (2017) opposite fellow homegrown talent Cillian Murphy.
