Fresh from supporting emerging Irish acts like Nixer and Powerful Creative Minds, as well as performing alongside the likes of Curtisy and Wallfella and the Burner Records crew, Absentee is back with his best work yet.
Dublin hip-hop artist Absentee is set to unveil his new single 'New Day', featuring vocalist Qbanaa, on Friday February 11th - but Hot Press has a teaser.
The release follows a string of live performances supporting the likes of bubbling Irish label Burner Records, Powerful Creative Minds and Nixer, as well as his recent Absent Hives EP.
Absentee derives his musical inspiration from artists like J Cole, Mac Miller and MF DOOM. He is a part of the new wave of talented artists/songwriters in Ireland that have propelled the music scene forward into the inclusive state that it is today. He has worked with artists like Softboy producer Gaptoof, The Róg Poets, Qbanaa and many more who are immersed in this scene. With his unique vocal tone, self actualised lyrics and creative beat selection, Absentee adds a new layer to the alternative rap scene in Ireland.
'New Day' brings new angles and a new perspective to Absentee's repertoire; bringing you down a path of wellness on both the physical and mental sides of life. The opening line - "I'm still struggling in my dusted days" - symbolises the place he himself is and the listener may be. "I want to move past this and have a brighter phase" follows, where the rapper won't find hope at the bottom of a glass.
The short, catchy chorus is accompanied by jazzy, soulful singing from frequent collaborator Qbanaa. The pair previously worked together on 'Blue Skies', which dealt with with themes of self hatred, the lust for love, and how the two can be wickedly linked together.

The new single is set for release on the 11th of February and features mixing and production from Absentee staple Mickzart and a master by D12 Inc's CameronTYP.
