'Creature of Habit' will be released on December 11th.
Elizabeth Moen is slowly gearing up for the release of her highly-anticipated Creature of Habit EP. ‘Eating Chips’ is her latest single from the project, and sees the Iowa-native experimenting with different sounds – namely, a theremin.
“Learning more about production and mixing this year helped me use those tools as a form of escapism,” Elizabeth notes of the tongue-in-cheek single, which is – at surface level at least – about snacks. But underneath Moen's deep, rolling voice, 'Eating Chips' is a quarantine anthem about feeling lonely and afraid of uncertainty.
“I wanted this song to sound like a Western in space, but a full band comes into the saloon and jams for a bit. I miss my bandmates and friends, and this was just a way to pretend I'm playing music with them on Mars and not dancing alone in the middle of nowhere."
The accompanying video, shot in California and directed by Scott Lahn, is quirky and delightful, a perfect amalgamation of Moen's characteristic wit. Moen says of the video shoot: “We went with dramatic, old-western vibes – except I'm just eating chips out of a bowl. Some friends were into making a video spontaneously, so we went around The Bay on a day when it wasn't smokey out last month with a bowl of chips, and some hats.”
