Kerry native Emma Edel has release fifth single, 'I Reckon Something', after successful 2020 and 2021 offerings.
Kerry singer-songwriter Emma Edel has returned with electric new dark-pop single, 'I Reckon Something'.
The self-reflective track explores the ups and downs of the musician's 20s. In the singer's first release of 2022, the catchy beats hide a much deeper meaning. 'I Reckon Something' also delves into the longing to be in a better situation while facing your own mental battle.
The emerging independent pop artist dropped her latest single after tremendous success with her previous four: 'If I Can't Have You', 'Why We Try', 'Good Time', and 'Meant To Be'. The songstress has yet to release an EP or LP, but has already supported the likes of Lyra, True Tides, and Skinny Living, before her first solo headline show. The Kerry musician performed her first sell-out hometown headline show at St Michael's Church back in March.
The track opens with a moody atmosphere, intriguing synth sounds, and an airy backing vocal. The true-pop vocal alongside thick baselines and a modern beat builds to a heavy final chorus and ominous closing notes. The track is significantly different to the sweeter pop tracks released by the artist previously - marking a maturing in her sound.
Speaking about 'I Reckon Something', Edel explains: "The idea of this song comes from the experiences I had while living in Dublin away from home. I had just come out of college, I was trying to work, pay rent and pursue music and I just felt I was in a cycle of getting nowhere with anything. In Kerry we have a saying “I Reckon” which means to "think/imagine/guess" which gave me the idea of wishing/imagining a better situation than the one you are in - becoming the track’s title."
Emma enlisted producer Alex O’ Keeffe to help develop this single which she originally began work on in 2019. The pair have worked well together previously on the track 'Why We Try', and according to Edel, another single by the duo will release later this year.

The charismatic artist released debut single 'If I Can’t Have You' in November 2020, peaking at No.4 on the Irish Radio Breakers chart and surpassing 4 million impacts to date on Irish radio. In June 2021, she released her follow up single 'Meant To Be', which premiered on Hot Press.
Learning piano from a young age and growing up in a musical household, it was at 15 that Emma began writing songs. It became a useful creative outlet during her teens. In 2014 Emma made the move to Dublin, where she explored her songwriting and sound, attending BIMM, and connected with different songwriters and bands.
2022 will see a string of new releases from Emma, along with more live performances.
