"At a time when biases, sexism & brutal violence against women still happens across the globe, this song is an uncomfortable expression of the things people don’t talk openly about."
Irish pop singer Lisa Murray has unveiled a new masterpiece titled 'Woman in a World'. The 25-year-old was motivated to write the song by the influx of violence against women in the UK and Ireland, along with the overturning of Roe v Wade in the US.
According to Lisa, the song is "a reflection of the inner thoughts and feelings I have as a woman in today’s day and age. At a time when biases, sexism & brutal violence against women still happens across the globe, this song is an uncomfortable expression of the things people don’t talk openly about."
The emotional piano ballad shows hints of influence by artists like Taylor Swift, Sigrid and HAIM. The simple production allows the vocals and lyricism stand out beautifully. "I can't walk alone at night/ without fearing for my life/ will I make it home?" Lisa sings, voicing a concern of women everywhere.
While the majority of the song was written in early 2022, she added a second verse later in the year after the Supreme Court ruling which overturned Roe v Wade. The verse goes, "Have to fight for my own rights/ will my body ever be mine?/ I'm not just a vessel/ I'm not a delicate petal,"
Lisa shared that she wishes "to raise awareness about the fears and frustrations of the women of this world for those who don’t understand them."
"Unfortunately, many women will resonate with the feelings and themes expressed in the song. I also hope this song will strike a chord with them, and help them know they are not alone," she continued.

Murray works closely with organisations who aim to close the gender gap in the music industry, including shesaid.so and She Knows Tech.
A music video accompanying the track will drop on the 18th of November. The musician also has a full EP on the way due for early 2023, Empty Heart. This project saw Lisa collaborate with Graeme Young, Mandy Clarke, Davide Rinaldi and Mart Hailey at the Edinburgh Chamber Studio.
