Melts' debut album Maelstrom, produced by Daniel Fox of Gilla Band, will be released on Mother Sky on Friday 13th May.
Dublin five-piece Melts have released new single 'Waltzer' today ahead of their SXSW shows in Austin, Texas.
The garage-rock outfit recently announced their debut album Maelstrom, previewing the record with title track 'Maelstrom' and latest single 'Outlier'. The debut, produced by Daniel Fox, will be released on Friday, 13th May.
“Repetition is definitely the key to Melts,” says dummer Gaz Earle. “It’s about just keeping it simple and driving and fucking stomping.” Earle makes up the Dublin five-piece along with Robbie Brady (keys/synth), Colm Giles (bass), Kenny (vocals) and Hugh O'Reilly (guitar). This idea of keeping it simple has been woven into the fabric of the band since day one.
Different line-ups were tried and experimented with and after an immediate connection at a rehearsal, Kenny was quickly in as singer. The inclusion of Kenny who, like all the other members have been in various other bands, unlocked something new and distinct in the group. Then once Brady joined on keys, an even more evolved tone to the band began to take shape.
The explosive band's new single 'Waltzer' was inspired by the whirlwind rides at fairgrounds, pushing and pulling the listener.

“The influence for the lyrics came from Rob’s organ line on the track, it has the same mechanical rhythm of a fairground waltzer," frontman Eoin Kenny explains. |The song is set in a fairground with people and machines moving, a couple dancing, giving ground and winning ground and a tight rope walker diving and returning to the rope. All throwing themselves into something unknown but knowing they’ll return to the same place, like a waltzer spinning.”
After their debut appearance at SXSW festival today, Melts return to Dublin's Button Factory and then head straight out on their first UK headline tour. See full list of dates below and buy tickets here.
