The debut single from the Limerick quartet gives listeners an exciting taste of what's to come with the imminent release of their EP, Fever Dream.
Rising Limerick band, Small Church, have released their debut single titled 'Kill My Friends'. The track comes from the group's forthcoming EP, Fever Dream, celebrated by a launch party in Limerick's Record Room on July 28.
The four-piece consists of PowPig frontwoman, singer and guitarist Andreea Mocanu, drummer Paddy Critchley, Killian Moran on bass, and Seán Horgan on keys/synth.
Soaked with rich bass, layered vocals, and slow-building drum beats, this guitar driven track rises and falls with indie-grunge effortlessness. The repeated hook: "I'm choking/I'm smoking/yeah/it's choking/it kills/it kills/it kills my friends/my poor friends" coupled with intense guitar solos produces an angst-filled, addictive track - leaving listeners wanting more and more.
Speaking to Limerick reporter, Manon Gilbart, the quartet commented on the release of their debut single.
"It was written during quarantine," Andreea recalled. "It has an angry feel, I feel, because a lot of us have been placed in isolated spaces and we didn't get to like see a lot of people and it was just a very lonely time for everyone.
“When I wrote that song, I was kind of thinking of a more like emo vibe, like everyone is so lonely.

“It's like suffocating, horrible. Everyone's so sad. But you know, you can kind of use the creative process to get rid of that feeling. Almost like retaliate.”
Keyboardist, Seán, added: “Usually young people or people that were our age weren't faced with the potential of their own mortality you know? At times, it was literally like, is this the apocalypse? Because it was so claustrophobic as well, the time that we kind of got to spend together, when we were actually getting to be creative was a bit of a blessing.”
